Yesterday I discovered a brand new beauty box. Unfortunately I discovered it a little too late to get the first edition which looked fab, with samples from Shisheido and Clarins amongst others. Instead of sending boxes at the end of the month, Going Chic send theirs out at the beginning. Of course I have signed up and will let you know my thoughts as soon as it arrives in January 🙂
1. Darphins Cleansing Water
Love the smell, love how kind it is on my skin, love how it cleans the last traces of dirt of. Love everything. Keeper.
2. Marc Jacobs Pear Splash
This was a limited edition eau de toilette that Marc Jacobs brought out quite a while ago but I have such a large bottle it’s lasting me forever and I wear it nearly every day but I’m finally getting to the end of the bottle! It’s a light floral smell great for every day
3. Illamasqua – Stagnate
Think this colour is great for Autumn and I love the way it looks on my nails. This is my new favorite shade
4. Chanel Illusion d’ombre
O M G – this eyeshadow is definitely FABULOUS. I am in love with it. It’s not something I can wear every day because of the extreme sparkle but it’s amazing. It makes my eyes look amazing, it’s magic. Are you sold yet? I love all of the colours, even the white colour (fantasme) looks like millions of tiny diamonds
Could do better
Nails Inc Balmoral
I think this is a nice neutral colour but I find the application really difficult and gloopy, I don’t know whether mine has just dried up a bit… maybe I’ll try adding that stuff to make it runnier
Sephora Eye Makeup Remover
This claims that it will not leave an oily residue on your eyes. That is a lie. It removes your eye makeup but in doing so leaves your eyes feeling very oily.. I hate that feeling so won’t be repurchasing
Alqvuimia Body Oil
I received this in my first beauty box from Glamourum, it was only a tiny sample, enough to do both legs and a bit twice but… I didn’t really find it to be a miracle worker., I didn’t notice that my legs were particularly moisturised or looking great so think I’m gonna stick to my body lotions, body oil is not for me.
Comodynes Make Up remover wipes
I got these in one of my beauty boxes. I don’t tend to use face wipes but I decided to take them with me to a wedding suspecting that I wouldn’t have 100% of my faculties at the end of the night and that wipes would probably be the safest bet. They’re not bad at removing makeup but they have a really strong perfumed scent that I absolutely cannot stand, give me a Johnson’s baby wipe any day.
What were your October favourites?
If you’re as nosy as I am I’m sure you’ll be interested to know what this month’s Spanish beauty boxes had to offer. There are currently 2 beauty boxes in Spain, Glamourum and Glossybox. This month the first to arrive was the Glamourum box
Anne Moller Defense Building Fluid
CND nail varnish in Electric Orange
Comodynes face mask & Comodynes tanning wipe
Uniq One all in one hair treatment
Orofluido – Beauty Elixir for your hair
Lolita Lempicka – 2 perfume samples
A good selection of products from Glamourum this month although I wasn’t overly pleased about receiving Comodynes products again. There were also 2 hair products, I think they could have perhaps included one and then one a different month, although having tested them they are both good products so I’ll let that slide. There were 3 full size products and the others are good size samples. The Anne Moller cream is like a primer that preps the skin before applying makeup so I have been using it under my normal moisturiser, and I have no complaints so far. I love the colour of the nail varnish and it was a perfect Halloween colour but also great for summer. Big thumbs up for Glamourum this month.
Glossybox arrived towards the very end of the month. I wasn’t so enamoured by this month’s offerings
Estee Lauder Advanced night Repair Eye
Oriflame Tender Care Vanilla Protecting Balm
Weleda – Iris Hydrating Facial Lotion & One Step Cleanser and Toner
Kryolan High Gloss in Toffee
Yanbal Body Lotion
To be honest I don’t think any of these products, apart from the Estee Lauder eye cream qualify as high end samples. Two of the products I didn’t like at all, the gloss is very sticky and the colour is awful and makes me look like a corpse. The body lotion smells like something an old lady would wear, and it’s a really highly perfumed scent, just horrible. I like the Weleda stuff and although it’s nice to try it I wouldn’t clasify it a luxury brand. The Oriflame stuff is ok, basically a vanilla scented balm in a somewhat cheap looking packaging. No thumbs for Glossybox.

If you’re looking for a subtle finishing touch to your halloween outfit, check out these Paperself spiderweb eyelashes
What do you think? Aren’t they fantastic? I think they’re really unique and original. They have lots of other options too, with flowers, butterflys and even zebras. Not sure how comfortable they’d be to wear..
They are available from Zuneta. Check out some of the options and let me know if you’ve dared to wear!
Oh dear, it’s nearly the end of October and I still haven’t posted this!
I wanted to do a quick post of my favourites and not so favourites for September so, starting with the best
1. Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish
I love Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, it’s the best cleanser and makeup remover I have ever used. It takes off all the grime and leaves my face really smooth. I only use it once a day, at night, to take off my make up and I have just run out and I now have a dilemma… knowing that I’ll be getting some for Christmas do I order some more or do I wait..??
This is a daily moisturizer with SPF 15. I first bought it a few months ago because it’s the perfect size and shape for taking on holiday in my hand luggage. It feels light on the skin and I love the smell – it’s kind of orangey and every time I smell it it’s like I’m on holiday again. It also claims to illuminate the skin but I don’t know about that, all I know is as a daily moisturiser for summer I love it, although for winter I’m gonna have to move on to something a bit heavier
I bought this to wear at my wedding as I was looking for something fresh and floral and jasminey because I absolutely love the smell of jasmines. As you can see I don’t have a lot left and I think this is gonna be a repurchase as it’s one of my favorite scents now
I got this in my Glamourum beauty box. It’s only a sample size, 5ml, but I have been using it as a serum before my moisturiser at night and it is amazing! I use the mini pipette to dab on a drop on each cheek and one on my forehead then rub it in and it leaves my skin so soft, it’s just fab. I would love to repurchase but firstly, I don’t know where I can get it from and secondly it’s pretty pricey.
Love the colour, it’s so unusual. Have worn it a few times since I bought it, it’s not usual for me to repeat a colour so soon so this must be a keeper.
The day I bought this I wasn’t actually looking for a blush, or in fact anything at all but I bought it just to stop the Urban Decay MUA from plastering the whole collection onto my face. I did forget about it for a while but when I did get around to using it not only was I pleasantly surprised, I actually really like this product. I would say it’s kind of a cream blush with a touch of sparkle in a pinky peach colour. It’s so easy to use, I just apply it with my fingertips and I even use it on bare skin. It blends easily and I love the colour.
I believe this colour is discontinued but you can pick it up on one of the discount websites. This stuff is great for me, I am always in a rush in the morning so being able to pop a little of this on to my eyelids with my fingers and be ready to go is a dream come true. The golden peachy colour has been fab for summer although I may be retiring it for the winter.
Could do better
I find night creams to be a bit too heavy for my liking so I like to use normal creams with no SPF at night jointly with some kind of serum. I think this is quite good, it hydrates really well and sinks nicely into the skin. The problem is the smell, I guess because it’s made of grapes, it kind of smells like grapes, well no, actually it smells more like raisins. It took me a while to get used to the smell but my husband absolutely cannot stand it, I don’t use this every day but when I do there’s generally no goodnight kiss for me 😦 I’d love this with a different or no smell.
Christian Dior – Gentle foaming cleanser
To be fair I’m a bit of a face cleanser whore. I never buy the same one twice. I use my face cleansers in the morning in the shower and tend to go for ones for dry or sensitive skin. I’ve been using this one for a couple of months and there is not much left. I don’t really have anything bad to say about it, it doesn’t dry my skin out and it is gentle, I have no reaction to it and for using in the shower it’s fine. It also smells good. I wouldn’t use it for removing makeup or anything though as it is too gentle. Oh and it doesn’t foam, at all. Probably won’t repurchase.
I quite like this moisturiser. It smells nice, kind of like plants and herbs, it’s quite a strong smell so might put some people off. Does it make me go wow! Not really, it moisturises my skin but it’s not the most amazing moisturiser I’ve ever used, I have really dry skin so it’s often a challenge for me to find something that really works. Will keep searching to find my holy grail.
Mehhhh – if I had to take it or leave it, I’d leave it
There are a lot of people who love this mascara but I am not one of them. It’s ok, I don’t really really hate it but I find it to be really gloopy and even brushing off loads of excess it still leaves gloops on my eyelashes. When it does work, it does make my lashes nice and long but with all the mascaras on the market I’d rather just get a non-gloopy one and save myself the hassle.
Mehhh – it’s ok but I find when I use it my nail varnish peels off after about a day. Not a fan.
So that was what I was loving and not quite loving in September. What were your favourites?
To be honest I only discovered eye crayons recently but I absolutely love them and I am making up for lost time. They make the days when I only have a 30 second timeframe to do my make-up so much easier. It would seem that I have developed quite a liking for the Sephora eye crayons, I love the range of colours they have and the texture is really smooth. They’re also waterproof so brilliant for the pool or beach and not ending up with panda eyes.
I currently have the taupe, beige, kaki, green and turquoise colours from the Sephora collection. My favourite is the taupe, it’s a really nice colour and is great worn on it’s own when I’m in a rush but I also like to wear it with Mac Sable.
The green and turquoise may look bright but I use them under the bottom lash line for a little pop of colour and I think they look fab.
My other crayon is one of the Nars Soft Touch Shadow pencils, this is the colour Aigle Noir. It’s black with a gold sparkle and I like to use it for a dark greeny gold smokey eye, sometimes with the Sephora Kaki crayon.
Do you love eye crayons? Any recommendations for me? I know I don’t have any of the NYX jumbos, in fact I don’t own a single NYX product. I think I need to remedy that ASAP!
I was looking for
A Vitamin C Serum
An exfoliating mask without grains for sensitive skin
High SPF (50+) face cream
Muslin Face Cloths
This is what I ended up buying:
I couldn’t find a vitamin C serum that I liked the look of so I ended up buying this Redness Relief Serum by Darphin. My skin gets very red, especially my cheeks and nose and when it’s cold I always look like Rudolph! I also got the Azahar cleansing water. I’ve never bought anything by Darphin before, and to be honest I didn’t even really know the brand so I guess it was a bit a risk to try two products by a brand I didn’t know and have never tested but the risk definitely paid off!
When I first tried out the serum I wasn’t keen on the smell, it smelled liked something old ladies would wear, however that was just the first time and now the smell doesn’t bother me. The texture is quite thin and watery but it absorbs quickly into my skin and I put my normal moisturiser on top. I wasn’t really impressed with this the first time I used it as I didn’t notice any difference in the redness in my cheeks but after a few days trying it I can confirm that it really works and it reduces the redness completely leaving me with normal toned skin.
The cleansing water smells absolutely fantastic, it’s really gentle on my skin and has a really nice texture and feel refreshing when cleansing. Love it.
Next I was looking for an exfoliating mask, something that would leave my skin feeling really smooth and would get rid of the dry skin but wouldn’t irritate it as it can be very sensitive. I chose the REN F10 Smooth and Renew Mask, which is another brand that I’ve never tried but I absolutely love this product, it leaves my skin so soft and it smells great too. It didn’t irritate my skin at all. It even comes with it’s own little muslin cloth. Definite 10/10 for thisI’ve also been looking for a high SPF to wear under my moisturiser, or instead of my moisturiser so I got this Alpha H Daily Essential Moisturiser , somehow on the journey to me the lid had come off and the plastic seal had broken so that wasn’t great. I haven’t tried this out yet so no review for now.
I also wanted to get a muslin cloth as since I’ve been using the Liz Earle cleanse and polish I love using the muslin cloths but I never have enough. I got a natural muslin cloth from Pai, it’s ok but I find it to be a little rough and to be honest I prefer the Liz Earle ones. Finally I picked up this blending brush from Stila, it’s the number 9 and it is massive! I have used it for blending but I think I prefer something a little smaller, although it’s quite a good size for powdering under the eyesOverall I’m really pleased with my purchases, I especially like the little samples they included.
